Fort Garry Brewing Company is very much a brewery that has grown to reflect the qualities and characteristics of the City and Province that are responsible for its success.
Fort Garry's Founder and President, Richard Hoeschen was born and raised in Winnipeg and the Company's shareholders are mostly Manitobans who responded overwhelmingly to the Initial Public Offering on the Winnipeg Stock Exchange.
FGB strives to be a company that is honest, informal, committed and community minded; the same qualities that are so deeply embodied in the Winnipeg and Manitoba communities of which FGB is proud to be a part.
FGB intends to continue to uphold these qualities as it embarks upon the next exciting stage of development... the opening of its new bottling plant in September 1999 |
 | Tradition
The Fort Garry Brewing Company is steeped in tradition. FGB's current President, Richard D. Hoeschen, is the fifth generation of Hoeschen's to operate a brewery. Richard's great, great grandfather, John Hoeschen Sr., started the first family brewery in 1906 in Saskatoon. In 1930, Ben Hoeschen (Richard's great grandfather) and his two sons John Jr. (Richard's grandfather) and Norman (Richard's great uncle), purchased the Fort Garry Brewery in Winnipeg, located at the corner of Furby Street and Cumberland Avenue. In the 1960's, both breweries were sold; the Saskatoon Brewing Company to Labatt and the Fort Garry Brewery to Molson. 1994 Richard Hoeschen resurrected Fort Garry Brewing Company as a micro-brewery and now five years later is opening a new bottling plant. At one time Winnipeg had eight local breweries, each with a unique and integral part of the community. FGB has come full circle and is leading the revival of community based, community minded breweries in Winnipeg.
Fort Garry Brewing knows the meaning of tradition, and when they say they will brew a traditional beer, they are speaking on behalf of the five generations of Hoeschen's whose legacy has been to give the beer drinker a truly traditional beer. FGB will continue to provide consumers with their traditional draughts, Dark Ale and Pale Ale and beer drinkers can look forward to FGB's bottled beers which will include its present Pale Ale and Dark Ale brands as well as an original pilsener style beer, amber wheat beer and various seasonal beers. FGB will continue to brew in the spirit of tradition; chemical additives or preservatives will not be used and beer is brewed in small batches using only premium raw ingredients.
Quality, Price and Commitment, Equals Value
The Fort Garry Brewing Company knows that beer drinkers want a quality beer at a competitive price and the Company plans to give the beer consumers what they want. FGB's quality pilsener style beer as well as their specialty brand prices will be on par with the major breweries' mainstream and specialty brands, but lower than the micro and regional breweries mainstream and specialty brand prices.
Quality and price are not the only elements of value that FGB intends to give to its customers. FGB believes that a commitment to the community is as important a part of value as are quality and price. FGB's commitment began with its decision to locate its new state of the art 25,000 square foot brewing and bottling plant in Winnipeg. The entire Provincial economy will benefit from Fort Garry's commitment to Winnipeg and Manitoba. Next, FGB gave local investors first chance to become partners in the exciting new endeavour through the Initial Public Offering and trading of its shares on the Winnipeg Stock Exchange. FGB also is demonstrating its commitment to the local arts and cultural community by sponsoring the 1999 Winnipeg Folk Festival's Tavern On the Green. Two grassroots radio stations - UMFM Campus Radio and CKUW 95.9, will benefit from FGB's support. The future will see FGB continuing to support local arts, entertainment and cultural events.
The value a consumer receives when purchasing Fort Garry beer goes well beyond the concept of a quality product at a competitive price. Fort Garry customers can be assured that Fort Garry will put something back into the community that has put its faith in Fort Garry Brewing.
